Pontifical Good Friday Collection

Pope Francis has asked our parish to support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the Church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. This collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. The wars, unrest and instability have been especially hard on Christians. In these times of crisis, the Good Friday Collection provides humanitarian aid to refugees. When you contribute, you become an instrument of peace.

PLEASE BE GENEROUS! For more information about Christians in the Holy Land, visit www.myfranciscan.org.good-Friday

February News

St. Mary's by the Sea Roman Catholic Parish Posted on January 20, 2023 by adminJanuary 20, 2023

Our Lady’s Comforters

Our Lady’s Comforters was founded in 2009 to gather parishioners together and make baby blankets for women and babies in difficult situations. In honor of               St. Mary’s by the Sea’s Centennial Celebration, we have set the goal of sewing 100 baby blankets by the end of this year, which will be donated to the pro-life centers listed below. In order to reach this ambitious target, we need your financial support. On January 28-29 and February 4-5, we will be collecting donations outside the Church after each Mass. Please be as generous as possible to help us to meet this goal.

Our first actual sewing session will be on Saturday, February 18 from 9am to 12pm. Everyone is invited to participate, and NO sewing experience is necessary!

The blankets will be donated to:

– Horizon Pregnancy Center in Huntington Beach

– Life Center in Santa Ana

– Children’s Hospital of Orange County

– His Nesting Place in Long Beach

Christmas Crib

Beginning next weekend and continuing through the month of December, we will be accepting baby gifts for our local crisis pregnancy center. Please consider a Christmas gift for these precious babies. Items will be used in various programs to help young mothers who have chosen life for their babies. A crib will be in Fr. Johnson Hall during the month of December for this collection. If you prefer, a monetary donation in an envelope marked “Christmas Crib” would also be helpful.

Parish Picnic and Rummage Sale

St. Mary's by the Sea Roman Catholic Parish Posted on July 31, 2022 by adminJuly 31, 2022

We are heading into our exciting month of events in August…. And we will need your help with fun activities soon. We have a few new volunteers coming forward to help with both the Parish Picnic to be held on Aug. 13th, from 11:00-2:00ish which is wonderful! The Church will supply grilled foods: brats, burgers, and hot dogs, (and any monetary donations are always appreciated to help pay for the food, tent and the table and chairs we needed to rent). You can help as well with the Picnic            set-up at 9:30am on Aug. 13th, at Lake Park located on the corner of 11th and Lake St. Help is needed to accept and arrange food brought by fellow parishioners around 11:00; Cooks to start grilling then too, please. All Parish attendees who CAN contribute food, here’s the suggested plan: those with last names starting with A-P, please bring appetizers, side dishes, or salads and Q-Z last names please bring desserts. Our KOC will contribute money toward drinks and ice, and another very, very good raffle prize to add to those we have been acquiring.

NEXT: The Rummage Sale committee starts collecting boutique donated items (from 9:00am-5:00pm) on Sat. Aug 20-Thurs. 25; we then need a lot of help to set-up the tables and tarps in the church parking lot with all the priced sale items on Thursday, 8/25 at 2:00 pm!!

Fri. 8/26 & Sat.8/27 is the Rummage Sale from 9-2pm and right after the Sale at 2pm on Sat. 8/27 we need THE MOST HELP in cleaning up the parking lot; loading leftover items and clothes into a truck to be done before the Vigil Mass at 5:00pm!

COME TO OUR STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE MEETING: AUG. 10th in the Hall at 6 pm to finalize and get these events wrapped up.

Parish Centennial Celebration

St. Mary's by the Sea Roman Catholic Parish Posted on May 20, 2022 by adminMay 28, 2022

Centennial Celebration

2023 will mark the 100th Anniversary of the construction of our Church. At that time, it was Sts. Simon & Jude Church run by Franciscan priests until 1973 when they moved to their current location on Magnolia Avenue in Huntington Beach. Our Church was then officially designated St. Mary’s by the Sea in 1977 after the Diocese of Orange was established in 1976.

For our anniversary, we are currently planning to have a Centennial Celebration, which will be held next year. We are so grateful and excited in anticipation of such a great occasion, but we need you, your ideas and gifts. Since we are just in the planning stages of the celebration, we will soon be forming various committees to oversee certain projects. Some of these projects (but, probably not all) will include a new parish directory, gathering facts about the history of our Church, organizing photos and stories for possibly a booklet or video, promoting our event including on social media, the actual celebration Mass and dinner, and planning the decorations for that day. We are also open to any other ideas you think we might be interested in.

If anyone would like to help us make our Centennial Celebration one to remember and would like to join one of our committees, please contact the Office (714-536-6913, x-112) with your name and phone number. You can also email us at stmarys.hb@gmail.com.

In addition, since we will be documenting the history of this Church over the past 100 years, we are looking for help from our parishioners and their families for any knowledge you may have about the Church and photographs or pertinent stories you would be willing to share with us or lend, including any accounts of spiritual growth you may have experienced.

Some volunteer topics:   photo directory, social media, historical records, decorations, dinner.

Mother’s Day

St. Mary's by the Sea Roman Catholic Parish Posted on April 29, 2022 by adminApril 29, 2022

Special Mother’s Day Offering

For this Mother’s Day (May 8th), please consider a monetary gift to honor a special mother or other loved one in your life, whether alive or deceased. A gift to St. Mary’s in the name of beloved relatives or friends is a unique way to celebrate the life and memory of special individuals in your life.

If you would like to participate, use one of the special “Mother’s Day Offering” envelopes located in the pews. Include the name of your mother (or other special person) and enclose your donation. You may put your envelope in either the Collection Basket, or you may drop it by the Office. If your gift is received by this Tuesday, May 3rd, we will put the name of your loved one in the Mother’s  Day bulletin.-_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Mother’s Day Roses

Roses will be given out next Sunday as a thank-you for your donation to the Life Center. Your donation will provide significant financial support for all of the Respect Life Centers and Clinics that provide shelter and support for women with crisis pregnancies. Consider making a donation and choose a  thank-you rose (or a few) for your Sweetheart, Wife, Mom, or Grandma
